Rated 6 "gone through phases" 6/25/06

Mall St. Vincent has gone through phases since its inception, both good and bad. The mall was initially constructed to feed off Shreveport's upper-class living in nearby South Highlands and it did so for quite a few years.

Over time, however, the lower-class population from the west began to take the mall over. Eventually, shoppers were made uncomfortable by the groups of loitering thugs that, in the late '80s, the future of this mall was very questionable.

Within a few years, the I-49 freeway was built next to Mall St. Vincent, effectively making access to the mall difficult for those who were causing problems. In addition, a tough security force was put in place which wouldn't allow people to loiter and cause trouble. These two events caused a complete turn-around in the mall, and over the next decade some of the classiest stores to open in this area were choosing to locate there.

Things have changed yet again, and since most of the classier clientele have moved on to other area malls, Mall St. Vincent has once again began to have problems. Just last year someone was shot just inside one of the mall's main common areas.

Overall, I rate this mall a 6. It's not great, but it does still have some good stores like Dillard's, Charlotte Russe, Abercrombie & Fitch, Banana Republic, Talbots, and a nice 3-story Sears store.
